Top Picks and Lineup for Monday Night Football DFS in Week 5 – Best Packers vs. Raiders Plays
Monday Night Football has delivered some stinkers so far in 2023, but logic suggests we could finally get a good one come Monday night in week 5.
The Green Bay Packers are looking to bounce back after dropping a dud against the Lions, while the Raiders are at home and sorely need a win of their own.
This game has a healthy 45.5 game total, and the spread is at just 2 points. Translation? It looks like a competitive, fairly high-scoring game is on the table.
So, what does that mean for your week 5 MNF DFS lineups? I’ll try to point you in the right direction with my favorite plays and my personal lineup for single entry tournaments.
Top Week 5 MNF DFS Picks
- Davante Adams, WR, Raiders ($16.8k)
- Josh Jacobs, RB, Raiders ($15.9k)
- Aaron Jones, RB, Packers ($15k)
- Jordan Love, QB, Packers ($14.7k)
These are the best plays going into Monday Night Football. They’ll all garner ownership if they’re at full strength and active, and they’ll also project very well.
I’d definitely look to roster at least two of the guys above, and which two you choose should depend on how you feel the game will go.
Adams will go up against Jaire Alexander, and he’s dinged up with a shoulder injury. That said, he looks to be ready to go as he prepares to face his former team for the first time.
I don’t think either of those things worry me. He’s proven to be pretty matchup proof, and the fact that he was able to come back into last week’s game is encouraging.
Jacobs has an awesome matchup. Green Bay ranks 29th against fantasy rushers and there’s little reason to suggest they randomly put the clamps down on the road against this stud.
Jones is a smash play, provided he’s going to come in at full strength. As you may recall, he was rather limited last week, and that surprised a lot of people.
Needless to say, there’s concern he may not be utilized as he should if he’s not ready for a full workload.
He’s still listed as questionable, too, so I’d definitely keep an eye on his status and any feedback from coaches.
There’s also Love, who has been super steady so far in 2023. He’s averaging 22.1 fantasy points per game, and given the way Green Bay spreads the ball around, he’s a safer play than any Packer player not named Aaron Jones.
You can (and should) put other guys in your Captain slot if you’re rolling out numerous MNF DFS lineups, but if you’re doing single entry tournaments or cash games, I’d focus on the list above.
Best Monday Night Football DFS Sleeper Picks
- Zamir White, RB, Raiders ($4.8k)
- Hunter Renfrow, WR, Raiders ($3.3k)
- Samori Toure, WR, Packers ($2.1k)
- Austin Hooper, TE, Raiders ($900)
- Dontayvion Wicks, WR, Packers ($300)
- Tucker Kraft, TE, Packers ($300)
- Emanuel Wilson/Patrick Taylor, RB, Packers ($300)
I probably won’t be using White, but he did see three touches last week and there are two scenarios where he’d have value; the Raiders run all over the packers, or Jacobs gets hurt.
White should only be on your radar if you’re creating 150 lineups, but it’s worth mentioning.
Renfrow is really only play if Davante Adams is randomly out, but we could also plan ahead here. Both Adams and Jakobi Meyers have gotten hurt this year, so either of them exiting early could elevate Renfrow pretty easily.
There’s also Hooper, who could play more if the Raiders are trailing. Both he and Renfrow are pretty risky, but if Green Bay dominates, I can see both paying off their price tags.
My guess is the best punts reside on the Packers, though.
Toure and Wicks have limited roles with Christian Watson finally fully healthy, but they do still get some opportunities. Toure caught a 35-yard pass last week, and Wicks had a nice touchdown back in week two.
Tucker Kraft also deserves a mention. Las Vegas is only a middle of the pack unit against tight ends, and Luke Musgrave is coming back from a concussion.
Most of my interest would come with a Packers punt at running back, assuming we learn Aaron Jones is out or limited again. I don’t trust A.J. Dillon anymore, so whatever running back Green Bay activates would deserve out attention.
Top Contrarian Captains for Week 5 MNF DFS
- Christian Watson (6%)
- Aaron Jones (5%)
- Romeo Doubs (3%)
It’s still early and we could get injury news that changes ownership. However, if Aaron Jones stays here, he will be awfully tough to pass up.
Jones went off for 26.7 fantasy points in week one, and if he’s not limited, I have to think he crushes a pretty weak Raiders defense.
That said, this is also a good matchup for Green Bay’s passing attack. Christian Watson was also limited last week, so I’d expect the bubble wrap to come off in this one.
Despite his game-breaking speed and more snaps coming his way, he’s still coming in at just 6% ownership. Are we looking at the MNF version of D.J. Moore here? It’s not impossible.
As tempting as those guys are, I might just eat up a 3% Captain’d Roubs.
Romeo’s price isn’t amazing, but that likely plays into his low ownership. Most people will flock to Adams, Jacobs, and perhaps Watson or Jones before looking to Doubs.
I’m not entirely sure why, though. All Doubs has done is average 15 fantasy points per contest, and he’s topped 18+ in three of his four games this year.
My Favorite Monday Night Football DFS Lineup for Week 5
- CAPTAIN: Romeo Doubs ($12.3k)
- FLEX: Jordan Love ($9.8k)
- FLEX: Josh Jacobs ($10.6k)
- FLEX: Jakobi Meyers ($7k)
- FLEX: Aaron Jones ($10k)
- FLEX: Dontayvion Wicks ($200)
Doubs at that low ownership is too good to ignore. He’s seen 12+ targets in each of the last two games, and it remains to be seen if Christian Watson can even stay healthy for a full game at this point.
Love completes the stack, while a hopefully healthy Jones should wreck this leaky Raiders run defense.
Jacobs should get his on the other side, and I’ll fade the chalky Adams to use Meyers, who is plenty involved (two games of 10+ targets) in this offense.
Meyers will face the weaker CB compared to Adams, while Green Bay’s defense tends to perform better against the pass in general. Adams will surely still leave his mark, but I’m not sure I see a massive outing here.
I’ll wrap things up with a punt in Wicks. I’m doubling down on Watson either being limited or getting hurt again, plus there’s always the chance the Packers could play from behind and take it to the air more than they’d like.
That does it for my week 5 MNF DFS picks. Good luck!
