Top USFL DFS Picks for Week 2 (2023)

Week one of the 2023 USFL season was one of unknowns. I felt really good about Case Cookus and Corey Coleman, and they did not disappoint.

Bo Scarbrough, on the other hand, was an utter failure and sank my USFL DFS lineups.

The good news is we now have a week of data to work with. Let’s get back to the grind and come away with some more great USFL DFS picks for week two.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson, QB, New Orleans Breakers ($9.7k)

I still like Case Cookus again this week, but Bethel-Thompson actually projects a little better and he’s cheaper.

That should mean he carries more ownership, but we’ll test that theory closer to the weekend.

Bethel-Thompson balled out in the CFL, as you may recall.

The 34-year old picked up where he left off in week one, putting up 302 passing yards and a score.

I think he could be in for more success this week against Houston.

T.J. Pledger, RB, Houston Gamblers ($8k)

On the other side of that New Orleans/Houston game is Gamblers leading rusher, T.J. Pledger. He did not find a ton of success last week from an efficiency perspective, but he’s got a huge role.

In all, he toted the rock 16 times for 41 yards, and caught two passes for 10 more yards. Pledger even managed to find the end-zone.

Role is key in fantasy sports, and Pledger is clearly the top dog right now for Houston.

That said, I’d keep an eye on the status of Mark Thompson, who missed week one and was a key contributor for the team in 2022. Assuming he’s sidelined again, though, Pledger feels like a great play.

Another good reason? Ownership could flock elsewhere. Anthony Jones, Alex Collins, and CJ Marable all look enticing, but Pledger is the second cheapest option out of that four-pack.

Davion Davis, WR, Birmingham Stallions ($3.5k)

There aren’t a ton of guys I feel totally compelled to pay up for on this slate, but if you’re looking for value, Davis may be the best USFL DFS sleeper out there.

He should be looking at a big workload with the news that top receiver Marlon Williams has been lost for the year.

That’s unfortunate, but Davis and USFL DFS players should be able to benefit.

There are other Birmingham options to look at, but Davis enters the week with a projection of 11.85 fantasy points. That’s 3.39 points per dollar for those keeping score at home.

He’ll be high-owned, but I’m not sure I really care.

Sage Surratt, TE, New Orleans Breakers ($4.2k)

Okay, we have even more value with my week two USFL DFS picks. Whether you roster Davis or not, you can save cash and get a solid option with Surratt.

He and Jace Sternberger balled out in week one, and are admittedly the only tight ends I’d consider placing among my top USFL DFS picks for week two.

Here’s his personal line from last week.

  • 9 targets
  • 5 catches
  • 85 yards

That is a massive role, folks.

Ideally he’s a bit more efficient and finds a way to score, but that is still 13.5 fantasy points at Draft Kings, which is a lot more than most USFL players will get you.

Surratt should be busy again this week, and he simply is too cheap to ignore.

Building Week 2 USFL DFS Lineups

I’ll be starting my week two USFL fantasy lineup build with the four picks above, but you can go in so many different directions.

This league is still tough to predict, so I’d either play very light, or at least cast a wide net by maxing out a small GPP.

I hit on a couple of my USFL DFS picks last week, so here’s to some more solid plays and a takedown in week two!
