Week 2 NFL DFS Picks – Top Plays at DraftKings
Looking for the best week 2 NFL DFS picks at DraftKings? I’ve got your back, with the goal to take down a GPP.
Obviously if you want to do that, you need a nice mixture of NFL DFS sleepers and top spends that will actually pay off. So, which players can you trust going into week 2?
When looking at matchups, salary, and upside, here are my top NFL DFS picks for week 2:
Top Quarterback Pick – Justin Fields ($5.4k)
My favorite QB for week 2 is easily Justin Fields. The Steelers did baby him a little bit in week one, but he still ran 14 times for 57 yards, which reminds everyone of his built in floor.
He didn’t wow anyone as a passer, but he also didn’t really have to in a game where Pittsburgh controlled throughout. Fields did, however, make some nice chunk plays through the air.
Overall, he played pretty well, and now he’ll face a Denver Broncos defense that allowed Geno Smith to rack up 18.8 fantasy points last week. Smith completed 72% of his passes and even scampered for a long touchdown run.
Fields is twice the rusher Geno is, and he has enough weapons to do some damage through the air. He also has the fourth best projection among fantasy passers this week, despite carrying almost no ownership.
Playing Fields gives you a nice floor+ceiling combo and saves you cash to pay up for several studs elsewhere in your lineup.
Best Running Back Pick – Jordan Mason ($5.2k)
Why get cute here? Jordan Mason is going to be chalk, but this feels like the type of high-owned player we just need to play.
Mason showed his ability in the San Francisco offense last week, as he ran all over a good New York Jets defense en route to a studly 25.2 fantasy point outing.
The Minnesota Vikings appear to be a pass funnel defense, which could suggest rough sledding on the ground. However, the Kyle Shanahan offensive system seems to be borderline matchup proof, and it appears that the volume will be there for the hyper-effective Mason.
The reality is that he has a huge role (29 touches last week) and is simply too cheap. Even if he only get 15 fantasy points, I think he’s a smash play at this salary.
If you want some studs to trust, Jonathan Taylor, Breece Hall, and Kyren Williams are the guys we should pay up for with confidence – in that order.
Top Wide Receiver Pick – Cooper Kupp ($7.6k)
Cooper Kupp is my favorite stud wide receiver going into week 2 NFL DFS contests.
Not only did he show us he can still put up WR1 overall production (35 fantasy points last week!), but he also won’t be fighting with Puka Nacua for targets.
Kupp is going to feast for as long as Nacua is sidelined, and this week he faces an Arizona Cardinals defense that gave up the 8th most points to fantasy WRs in week one.
He owns the second best projection among all wide receivers, too. The only real knock is his ownership, as he’s coming in as the second highest owned WR, behind only Rashee Rice. That said, he is $1.2k cheaper than CeeDee Lamb and his role is just way too good to pass up.
Best Tight End Pick – Travis Kelce ($6.2k)
I really like both Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews as bounce-back candidates this week. Andrews only saw two targets in week one and was in a car accident not too long ago, though, so he is far less stable.
He is way cheaper ($5k), but I think Kelce will be worth the investment. The only question is if you can comfortable get to all of my top week 2 NFL DFS picks. It might mean nailing the right week 2 NFL DFS sleepers.
Regardless, Kelce was quiet in week one, so I expect him to have a much bigger game come week two.
The logic is there, as the Cincinnati Bengals gave up 14.29 fantasy points per game to tight ends in 2023, which was second worst in all of football. And while Kelce didn’t get it done last week, his $6.2k salary is a nice discount compared to where he was often priced in recent years.
Top Defense Pick – Indianapolis Colts ($3.3k)
I actually like several team defenses for week 2 NFL DFS, but as is always the case, none of them are even easy to trust. If possible, I do prefer to stay at $3.5k or lower, and if there’s a punt, that’s my favorite way to go.
None of my defense picks worked last week, so hopefully it can go the other way this week. I’d start with Indy, who head to Green Bay to battle Malik Willis and the Packers.
I actually don’t hate Willis as a DFS punt at quarterback, but realistically speaking, the Packers offense is in a lot of trouble with Jordan Love sidelined with a knee injury.
Not into the Colts? The Giants ($2.7k) and Commanders ($3k) face off and both have appealing matchups against less than reliable offenses. There’s always the chance that the Packers defense ($2.6k) elevates their game to account for what should be a struggling offense as well.
Core NFL DFS Picks for Week 2
- Justin Fields, QB, Steelers ($5.4k)
- Jordan Mason, RB, 49ers ($5.2k)
- Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams ($7.6k)
- Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs ($6.2k)
- Colts Defense ($3.3k)
That does it for my best NFL DFS picks this week. I wanted to highlight my #1 favorite play at every position, which hopefully gives you a nice core to work with.
Fields is literally the best points per dollar play ($3.88) at the QB position. Same with Mason at RB ($3.80). It’s true for Kupp ($3.01), too. If you want to keep the trend rolling, try Jake Ferguson ($2.69) at TE if he is a full go.
Overall, though, this looks like an awesome core. You’re eating what I think will be good chalk in Mason/Kupp but having two chalky players is not the end of the world.
