Best MLB DFS Stacks to Target at Draft Kings on May 4, 2023

Another day, another slate where the Milwaukee Brewers were horrendous chalk. I listed the Brew Crew among my top MLB DFS stacks yesterday almost out of obligation, and of course they bombed.

I won’t break them down today. Just know that they are again at Coors Field, and the second we all fade them, they’ll go bananas.

You don’t actually need me to twist your arm to play bats at Coors, though. Fire up the Brewers and Rockies all you want – I support it – but just know they’ll be pretty popular.

Obviously if either side goes off and you fade, you’ll be in trouble. However, the quickest path to the top of a GPP is finding the stack nobody sees coming. Here’s my crack at that with my favorite MLB DFS stacks for Thursday, May 4th at Draft Kings.

Yesterday’s Stacks – Quick Recap

  • Mariners – 7 runs
  • Orioles – 0 runs
  • Brewers- 1 run
  • Twins – 4 runs

It wasn’t good, my friends. Baltimore let the aged Zack Greinke shut them out, Milwaukee managed just one run at Coors, and Minnesota teased as an amazing hedge on a chalky Dylan Cease.

For a second there, I thought the Twins would rescue us, but my stacks largely were disgusting.

Of course, the Mariners did swing in like Tarzan to save the day. They didn’t break the slate, but they weren’t egregiously owned, and they helped me cash, personally.

Baltimore and Milwaukee should have been better, but that’s a good reminder for why fading chalk in daily fantasy baseball has its merits.

Onward and upward. Let’s dive into today’s top daily fantasy baseball stacks.

Oakland Athletics

I like to start every slate by identifying the chalk MLB DFS stacks, as well as the chalky arm. This is a slate where we can use the chalky bats, but could we target popular arms?

It’s possible. One of the chalky hurlers today should be George Kirby, as he gets the usually punchless Athletics in a pitcher-friendly park.

The play here is ownership.

The A’s will be unowned – and for good reason – and Kirby should be popular. Hence, if we fade Kirby and stack Oakland (and they go off), we have a massive edge on the field.

I don’t know if that’s enough to get me to obtain massive exposure here. However, Oakland has two dudes who tear the leather off the ball against right-handed pitchers.

  • Brent Rooker – .370 ISO, .482 wOBA
  • Shea Langeliers – .328 ISO, .378 wOBA

Could you just fade Kirby and roll with some A’s as a secondary stack? Yeah, and that’s probably my advice here. That said, a full stack could be something special if Kirby falters.

Baltimore Orioles

Okay, let’s try this again. The O’s get a park downgrade, but they’re once again in a smash spot.

Jordan Lyles can miss bats a bit better than Greinke, but it isn’t by a lot, and this dude gives up all kinds of hard contact. Ideally we attack him with lefties, but I’m not too concerned about splits here.

Baltimore could see their ownership drop given their failure last night, and Coors existing on this slate can’t hurt, either.

The O’s hit the ball hard and they actually have quite a few lefties to throw at Lyles, who was awful in his last start (7 earned runs), and enters the day with an ugly 6.11 ERA.

It could be a quick exit for the righty on Thursday.

Chicago Cubs

It will be interesting to see which MLB DFS stack is chalkier between the Cubs and Orioles, but given Coors Field being on this slate, it’ll likely just be split.

Ownership be damned, the Cubs look awesome here, as they get Patrick Corbin, who hasn’t been good for some time.

Or since the Nats won the World Series, apparently.

While there is some truth to that, baseball gonna baseball. However, I love the Cubs here, as they have a lot of power in their lineup and they crush the ball.

Corbin is allowing a .388 wOBA and .207 ISO to righties on the year, and his 38.6% hard hit rate isn’t going to do him any favors here, either.

Oh, and the Cubs have a string of hitters who have been on fire against southpaws so far in 2023.

Cubs projected lineup vs L.

That isn’t a guarantee that Chicago will wreck, but this is as good of a spot for any stack in daily fantasy baseball today.

Overall, these are the three most compelling MLB DFS stacks to me. You can and should still get some Coors exposure, while the Rays and Mariners also look to be in good spots.

Beyond these options, I’d look at ways to gain leverage on the field. Maybe targeting stacks like the Royals or Nationals could be a good way to do that, or targeting another arm with high ownership.

That does it for my look at the top MLB DFS stacks for Thursday. Good luck!
