4 Best MLB DFS Stacks to Target at DraftKings on March 31, 2023 – Play the Padres and More

Opening Day was a bit of a disaster for yours truly. I actually broke even across the board thanks to eating some chalky Braves and rostering Gerrit Cole quite a bit.

I did hedge my Cole exposure with some awful Giants stacks, and I also had too many Royals, Pirates, and Brewers. Luckily, I had enough Orioles to power me to a “meh” day.

The rest of my MLB DFS picks weren’t the best, so with Friday’s ho-hum five-game slate, I’ll dial it back a bit and simply focus on the top MLB DFS stacks you might want to go after on Draft Kings.

San Diego enters this tiny slate as the top stack in terms of ownership. Much like Atlanta yesterday, I suggest having some ownership, but the value is in finding a different stack or two to latch onto.

Let’s dig into four other daily fantasy baseball stacks that could be worth your time today.

New York Mets

The Mets face a rising pitcher in Jesus Luzardo, who is a talented southpaw who may finally be discovering his touch in the majors. He sported a respectable 3.32 ERA with 120 Ks last year, and enjoyed a pretty strong finish down the stretch in 2022.

While Luzardo is talented and is viable as an arm on this small MLB DFS slate, he also is drawing significant ownership (31% per RotoGrinders.com), so attacking him does make some sense.

New York has a lot of power in their lineup, and they can mash left-handed pitching.

Pete Alonso is the ultimate one-off here, but you can stack him with Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, Eduardo Escobar, and even Tommy Pham or Mark Canha, depending on the Mets lineup today.

Cleveland Guardians

Robbie Ray is probably a lock for most of my MLB DFS lineups today, but there is certainly merit in picking on him with some Guardians stacks.

The Guardians aren’t very strikeout-happy, for starters, but the big selling point here is Ray is projected as the second highest-owned arm on this slate.

On a five-gamer, that has to catch our eye.

Ray is a tough guy to mow down, of course. He sports a nasty 27% whiff rate, and he happened to crush Cleveland (25.6 fantasy points per game) in two starts in 2022.

That said, he does have issues with viable righties. His K rate dips slightly against that side of the plate, his wOBA and ISO allowed go up, and he offers up lots of hard contact and fly balls.

Cleveland seems to be one of those teams that stinks in smash spots, and goes off when they shouldn’t. I still like Ray here, but there’s enough data to support a sprinkling of Guardians in tournaments.

Los Angeles Dodgers

I won’t spend much time on the Dodgers. They are, of course, the freaking Dodgers, and they are absolutely stacked offensively.

Tonight, they face Merrill Kelly, who is a pretty pedestrian pitcher. He was solid across the board last year – and he doesn’t give up crazy power numbers – but the Dodgers owned him in 2022.

Across five meetings, he sported a ghastly 8.25 ERA and averaged 6.8 fantasy points per game.

L.A. will be popular, but if they come in behind the Padres, I’ll consider being over weight compared to the rest of the field in GPPs.

Chicago White Sox

One of the other MLB DFS stacks I like for today will be Chicago, and this is almost 100% an ownership play.

Much like I love Robbie Ray tonight, I also like Christian Javier. He has a disgusting 33% K rate and he’s fresh off a fantastic season where he posted a sparkling 2.40 ERA.

So, why the interest? Because this is a volatile sport that even saw Jacob deGrom get shelled on Opening Day.

Baseball gonna baseball, I guess.

And hey, the White Sox are certainly a capable group. They lost Jose Abreu to the very squad they’re facing on Friday, but they still have power potential and they are not a high strikeout offense.

That could be bad news for Javier, who has a low groundball rate and gives up loads of fly balls. If Chicago is patient and puts the ball in play, they could be a slate-breaking MLB DFS stack today.

Choosing the Right MLB DFS Stack on Friday

This is a small slate, so pushing even four daily fantasy baseball stacks might be a reach. Add on the chalky Padres, and you’re really getting five stacks.

On a slate with 10 total teams, I can’t reasonably give you more than that.

Of course, as we know, this probably just means one of the five teams I didn’t mention will score approximately one billion runs tonight.

But you can’t think like that. You can’t play (or stack) everyone, so you need to lean on data, embrace some variance, and hope for the best.

Hopefully my Friday MLB DFS stacks lead you to some winning. Good luck!
