Nolan Arenado and the Top MLB DFS Picks to Target at Draft Kings on Monday (8/14/2023)

Monday looks like a good slate to try to win some money in daily fantasy baseball contests. I’ve already churned out the 4 best MLB DFS stacks for this slate, but I thought I’d get a bit more granular.

You can use my top MLB DFS picks for one-offs, to build out secondary stacks, or to formulate full stacks.

What you do is up to you, but I really like these plays for specific reasons. I’ll offer up my top play at each position, and it’ll be your call how to use my advice.

With that, let’s dive into my top MLB DFS picks for Monday night at Draft Kings.

Tyler Glasnow, SP, Tampa Bay Rays ($10.8k)

Glasnow feels like the best pitcher taking the mound tonight. He’s pretty expensive, but nobody on this entire slate has averaged as many fantasy points per start in 2023.

He’s also coming in hot, having generated 23+ fantasy points in seven straight contests. Needless to say, a lot of touts like him to go long and have a strong outing.

Tonight he gets the San Francisco Giants in a pitcher’s haven. The matchup looks solid enough on paper, and a somewhat erratic Mad Max is the only other true stud arm to consider.

Glasnow is my SP1 and it’s not particularly close. The only real issue is deciding on your SP2.

Gabriel Moreno, C, Arizona Diamondbacks ($2.5k)

Moreno’s numbers are bad for the year, but he’ll be in Coors against a weak pitcher. He’s also dirt cheap, so if he gets the start, he looks like one of the better punts on the board.

Arizona are also one of the best MLB DFS stacks for Monday, so he could just be your last guy in if you go that route.

Matt Olson, 1B, Atlanta Braves ($6.5k)

I didn’t mention the Braves in my top MLB DFS stacks breakdown just because they’re even more obvious than a Coors offense these days.

That said, I will highlight Olson, who is battering right-handed pitching in 2023. Check out his disgusting numbers, per RotoGrinders.com’s PlateIQ:

Olson can mash anyone, and tonight he gets Clarke Schmidt, who offers a .214 ISO and .378 wOBA against left-handed bats. His K rate drops by 8% compared to righties, too.

Ketel Marte, 2B, Arizona Diamondbacks ($5.7k)

Most of the attention will be on Corbin Carroll here, but Marte and his .223 ISO against right-handed pitching also deserves our attention.

He’s also got a decent K rate, is in Coors, and faces Chris Flexen, who had a weak 15% whiff rate and gives up a .219 ISO and .424 wOBA to lefties.

Marte is just one piece of a fun D’Backs stack, but he’s one of the best pieces.

Nolan Arenado, 3B, St. Louis Cardinals ($5.6k)

I also don’t mind the Cards as a stack on this slate, and Arenado is a pretty big reason why. He’s not cheap, but he and his St. Louis brethren are a nice pivot off of Coors and Atlanta stacks.

Arenado is feeling it at the moment, as he’s put up 7+ fantasy points in five of his last six games. More specifically, he is fresh off a three-hit night.

He is absolutely feeling it right now, and tonight he’ll be at home against JP Sears. The Oakland lefty can make righties miss, but Arenado has a sparkling 13.6% K rate and Sears gives up a lot of power to both sides of the plate.

Tommy Edman, SS, St. Louis Cardinals ($3.9k)

You won’t be able to use all of my top MLB DFS picks in the same lineup, so I’ll give you a cheaper option in Edman.

He’s part of what could be a fun Cardinals stack, and he is red hot at the moment:

  • 8/12: 32 fantasy points
  • 8/11: 12 fantasy points
  • 8/10: 17 fantasy points

Edman is feeling good these days, and the matchup is just as good for him as it is for Arenado.

He brings a nice .238 ISO and .357 wOBA to the table against lefties, and his 19.4% whiff rate is one of the best the Cards have to offer.

Alek Thomas, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks ($2.9k)

You’re going to want to save cash if you end up paying up for the Braves or Coors bats, but some Arizona guys are actually fairly priced.

Thomas isn’t a lock to start tonight, but if he does, I like the price and his matchup. He has displayed plenty of power (.200 ISO) against righties on the year.

Building MLB DFS Lineups on Monday, 8/14

Overall, these are just some of the top MLB DFS plays for this slate. You can use them as one-offs or part of stacks – that’s up to you.

However, right now my favorite build is to stack Arizona bats, and try to use some of the cheaper guys that maybe will go overlooked.

We’ll know more when lineups come out, and it’ll also be key to check how ownership looks for the slate.

Good luck!
