LeBron James

NBA DFS Picks for Tuesday, 2/28/23

Daily fantasy basketball is often about dodging land mines. Last night, you literally had to find your way around three of them.

Yes, even on a small four-game slate, all three of the top studs were ghastly. LaMelo Ball got hurt, Jayson Tatum got ejected, and Joel Embiid simply wasn’t good enough.

Fortunately, most everyone was in a similar boat, so cashing was still very much in play. On Tuesday, things get more complicated with 10 games coming out way.

Needless to say, there’s a bit more room for error, but you still want to get it right. I’ll get you started with my favorite NBA DFS picks. Just make sure to adjust as needed before lineups lock.

Josh Giddey, G, Oklahoma City Thunder ($7.5k)

Giddey keeps under-performing even when he has the keys to the OKC offense, but this is still a well I have no issue going back to.

Not only does Giddey have a nice matchup with the Sacramento Kings, but he’ll again be very busy with SGA still sidelined.

Giddey historically gets a significant boost in this setting, so I’ll continue to believe in that, rather than lean on recency bias. While he hasn’t paid off yet, he’s still way too cheap given his role and the spot he’s in.

Even if he’s mega chalk, I’m buying in tonight.

Anthony Davis, C, Los Angeles Lakers ($10.3k)

Same story here, as I don’t really mind if The Brow comes in with massive ownership. The reality is he should feast against the Memphis Grizzlies with LeBron James ruled out.

In fact, he could be out an extended period of time.

The Lakers are under-manned tonight, so if this game stays competitive, Anthony Davis is going to crush.

Despite the huge role going into this one, The Brow’s fantasy points projection is just the fifth highest of the slate. Ownership could be spread out on this one, too, so if he isn’t going to be the clear chalk, I am even more game for him as a core play.

Kris Dunn, PG, Utah Jazz ($3.6k)

You could talk me into numerous Jazz players tonight, as Utah will be very short-handed. They have already been missing Collin Sexton, but Jordan Clarkson will now be sidelined.

Kris Dunn logged 23 minutes and put up 40 fantasy points in his last outing, and he’s a good bet to start or at least push for 30 minutes off the bench.

Tonight he also draws a tasty matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, and he’s dirt cheap. Dunn currently owns the best points per dollar projection (9.28) by a wide margin, so it’d have to take something silly to get me off of him.

Of course, he’s also projected to be 62% owned, so fading just to gain leverage in tournaments isn’t crazy.

Dennis Schroder, PG, Los Angeles Lakers ($4.9k)

Lastly, let’s go back to the Lakers to get some more value. You can also look to Malik Beasley and a few other guys on L.A., but Schroder should be the safest cheap option on their roster.

LeBron being out helps a lot, but D’Lo is also doubtful to play tonight.

Schroder is usually very busy when James is sidelined, and I can’t imagine he won’t be again tonight. The matchup is not the easiest, but the value is obvious.

Of course, if he ends up being too chalky, consider pivoting to a different Lakers value or see if some cash opens up elsewhere on this slate.

These are my top daily fantasy basketball picks to get the ball rolling. Be sure to factor in updated projections, ownership, and injury news before finalizing your NBA DFS lineups for February 28th.

Good luck!
