NBA DFS Picks for Saturday, 1/28/23

Saturday’s daily fantasy basketball main slate is immediately made interesting by the absence of Luka Doncic. I went ahead and explored some interesting NBA DFS ownership for Saturday to give you an idea of his initial impact.

Of course, it’s very early in the day. A lot can change leading into lineup lock. That said, it’s important to find your footing before everyone else, as it will allow you to adjust quicker if things get crazy.

With that, let’s dive into my top daily fantasy basketball picks for 1/28.

Alperen Sengun, C, Houston Rockets ($8.8k)

I’ll start with Sengun, just because he’s weirdly only projecting for 19% ownership. Perhaps that number only goes up from here, but I like him no matter how much he’s owned.

The reality is this dude was blowing up even before Jalen Green got hurt. Now he’s really going to have the offense to himself.

While that may cause some to flock to other value on the Rockets, I’ll just trust the guy who averages 1.4 fantasy points per minute with Green and KPJ off the floor.

Sengun is not cheap anymore, but that works in our favor if we want others to lose track of his scent. He’s still topped 54+ fantasy points in four of his last six games, and tonight he gets a Pistons defense he should be able to feast on.

Mini-Jokic should be massive chalk. If he’s not, we can safely admit there’s still an edge in NBA DFS.

Spencer Dinwiddie, G, Dallas Mavericks ($7.4k)

I touched on the Luka Doncic news earlier, but in case you haven’t heard, he exited his last game with an ankle injury. It was bad enough to keep him out of tonight’s contest.

Doncic’s absence is massive, but this team is also without Christian Wood. That leaves loads of usage to be soaked up, and you better believe we need to start with Dinwiddie.

Chalk be damned this dude averages 1.28 fantasy points per minute in these exact situations, and he sports a disgusting 33.3% usage rate.

And he just went ham after Luka’s untimely death his last time out.

Dinwiddie should be 100% owned and this is not the time to get cute and pull the full fade card. Eat this chalk with a bib and a smile on your face, friends.

If I didn’t make it clear, there’s a ton of points on the board to be had here. Utah is also a good matchup for Dallas. Definitely keep Tim Hardaway Jr., Dwight Powell, and basically anyone else who starts for the Mavs on your radar tonight.

Damian Lillard, PG, Portland Trail Blazers ($10.5k)

I also really like Jayson Tatum tonight, but he’s a bit pricier than Lillard, and our main man here is going overlooked just as much.

Why? Because of all the Dallas bodies we’ll want, for one, but also because Chris Paul is another viable option that is expected to be uber-owned.

I see CP3’s projection and get the interest with Devin Booker out, but if he’s really going to be 32% owned, it feels like a good time to pull the fade card out.

Instead, let’s just pay up for Thrillard, who we know can nuke the slate. Getting him at low ownership just makes the risk even more worth taking.

Remember, if you want a takedown in GPPs, you can’t play it safe. You should absolutely play some Mavs and perhaps even some Rockets. And you can still use CP3 or other chalky guys if you want. But to take first, you need to get different.

I’ll eat some Dallas chalk, but I’ll get different at CP3 and other spots. Sengun and Dame are two great ways to do that without compromising a nice floor or considerable upside.
