NBA DFS Fades for Wednesday, 1/25/23 – 3 Options You Shouldn’t Play

There are two decisions you need to make every time you build NBA DFS lineups; who to play, and who to fade.

I think you can typically start with our top NBA DFS picks to come to a core, but at some point if you want to get a takedown, you probably need to fade a popular option.

There is such a thing as good chalk. Tonight, I’ll once again be suggesting to play T.J. McConnell, even though he’s projecting for insane 56% ownership.

Fading McConnell could technically gain you a sizable edge on the field, but I don’t think he’s the appropriate fade on this slate. Instead, here are three popular plays I may shy away from at Draft Kings on Wednesday night:

Zach Collins, C, San Antonio Spurs ($3.6k)

There’s no denying that the price is good for Collins, but he’s a questionable play for three reasons.

  • Pop likes to mess with our heads
  • The Spurs are healthy down low
  • He’s going to be popular

That is enough to keep me off of him.

Besides, he isn’t a lock for 25+ minutes, nor is he guaranteed to smash. There are too many variables that I don’t like to buy into him as good chalk, especially with more value likely to open up before lock.

Corey Kispert, SG, Washington Wizards ($3.1k)

How can you not like Kispert? There is usage opened up by the absence of Kristaps Porzingis, he is starting, and he’s a good bet for around 30 minutes.

He’s also almost the bare minimum at DK.

All of that sounds great, to be sure, but this is still a guy who historically does very little outside of hitting three-pointers.

He isn’t even a very reliable scorer, and even with Zinger off the floor, you’re looking at a 15% usage rate and a putrid 0.64 fantasy points per minute.

Is he a good points per dollar play in theory? Yes, but he’s also quite likely a trap.

KJ Martin, PF, Houston Rockets ($5.1k)

This is easily the best play of tonight’s NBA DFS fades. I don’t have any major issue with Martin, but I don’t like that he might be chalky, and someone like teammate Tari Eason is way cheaper.

Eason is the vastly superior play in my mind, and he saves you money. Martin is going to see 30+ minutes and Jabari Smith Jr. may sit again, but he isn’t the play I’d be targeting on the Rockets
