Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks to Use at DraftKings on Wednesday, 4/12/2023
Wednesday is a good day for some daily fantasy baseball. The weather is perfect, the winds are blowing out in a lot of stadiums, and we’ve got a game at Coors.
The only problem? The pitching leaves a lot to be desired.
Even so, you shouldn’t have much trouble finding some quality MLB DFS stacks to roll with. If you’re seeking some help, here are my favorite four for the early slate at DraftKings on April 12th, 2023.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals are a very capable offense and they’re in Coors, so you don’t need a big sales pitch here. I do think facing Jose Urena puts them over the top as one of the best MLB DFS stacks, however.
Urena has a weak 13% whiff rate and he gets absolutely smoked (0.392 wOBA and 47% hard hit rate) by lefties, but he’s just in a lot of trouble against this team in this park.
St. Louis has underwhelmed to this point at Coors in this series, but there’s no time like the present to make up for it.
It’s Coors, it’s Urena, and the winds are blowing out on an 80 degree day. The only thing not great about the Cards? They’ll be super owned.
Leverage stack: Colorado Rockies
I don’t really need to sell the Rockies. They’re in the same park and they’ll be less owned. They do face a quality arm in Jack Flaherty, but Colorado could weirdly fly under the radar here.
Seattle Mariners
You could easily pump the Cubs here, too. Neither side actually has a great matchup, as Chicago faces Logan Gilbert and the M’s get Marcus Stroman.
However, the wind is gushing out at 20 MPH at Wrigley, so we absolutely need to look at using these bats.
I’ll side with Seattle, just because Stroman has to face the more dangerous lineup. Seattle largely gets the ball in the air, and they tend to hit the ball hard.
Maybe that means nothing against a guy who survives on groundballs, but given the park and the winds, I am willing to give it a go.
Milwaukee Brewers
This is mostly an ownership play. Pitching will be hard to figure out on this slate, and that’s a big reason why many will flock to Drey jameson, who the Brew Crew takes on.
Jameson has looked good to this point, and there are a lot of Ks in Milwaukee’s lineup, but they also hit the ball really hard across the board.
Hard contact is something Jameson has struggled with, plus he walks batters from the right side of the plate at an alarming rate.
If the walks and contact aren’t in check, this Brewers offense could hop on him early.
New York Mets
Lastly, let’s talk about the Mets. They’ll be facing another chalky arm in southpaw Blake Snell. On the surface, it’s a bad matchup and you should actually be looking to roster Snell.
However, Snell sports a gross 10% walk rate, and we know he can give up a lot of hard contact and fly balls to the right side of the plate.
That’s problematic when facing mashers like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor.
Let’s not forget about a very capable bat like Starling Marte, nor lefty mashers like Tommy Pham, Eduardo Escobar, and Mark Canha.
This stack is all about Snell drawing ownership and potentially getting in trouble with too many walks. If he has issues early, it could be a short day for him on the mound.
There are four elite MLB DFS stacks on the early slate, so picking your spot at Wrigley and Coors is probably fine, provided you get different with your secondary stack, or use a pitcher nobody else is on.
The pitching isn’t great, but I’d probably lock in Zack Wheeler and hope my SP2 doesn’t crater. I’ll likely roll with the Cardinals as my primary stack, and round my MLB DFS lineups out with a secondary stack like Milwaukee or the Mets.
Other MLB DFS stacks to consider on this early slate include the Angels, Yankees, and Twins. Good luck!
