4 Best MLB DFS Stacks to Target at DraftKings on April 14, 2023

It’s never easy to find the right stack on a tiny slate. So, naturally, the top chalky offense (Blue Jays) scored one run, and the best stacks were from bad offenses.

Baseball gonna baseball, I guess.

But really, I mentioned yesterday that fading the chalky MLB DFS stacks makes a lot of sense. I think we can adhere to that logic on a massive slate like we have today at DraftKings.

There is a lot to unpack on this slate, but I have four MLB DFS stacks that I’ll be prioritizing.

New York Yankees

The pinstripes did not show up last night. The visiting Twins hung nine runs on them in the first inning, and New York never recovered.

I think there’s a good chance we see a jolt out of them tonight.

Not only will they want to offer up a better performance at home after that beating, but they also have a good matchup.

Tonight, they get Louie Varland, who has a small sample size to work with, but so far hasn’t lit the world afire in the majors. He sported a respectable 3.81 ERA last year, but nothing else was too encouraging.

Varland walks into a dangerous stadium against a loaded offense with a 19% whiff rate, and he has gotten hammered by right-handed hitting early in his career.

Cue the Yanks, who have two titans from that side of the plate in Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Baltimore Orioles

The O’s move away from their comfortable home ballpark, but they still are in a good spot against Mike Clevinger and the Chicago White Sox.

Clev was once a promising prospect, but he’s become a very hittable pitcher.

Baltimore hads gobs of power to throw at his weak 18% strikeout rate, and he gives up too much contact to both sides of the plate. That, and he walks lefties at an alarming 9% rate.

The O’s can always fail us, but it’s an underrated spot for a surging offense. They have a few viable left-handed bats to throw Clevinger’s way, but I like both sides of the plate in this one.

Houston Astros

This isn’t really three years ago when we could freely pick on Martin Perez. He’s magically morphed into a pretty good pitcher, as he doesn’t give up a lot of fly balls and he limits damage with groundballs.

However, Perez doesn’t whiff batters at a high rate, he walks guys too often, and he still gives up a lot of hard contact.

All of that is probably bad against Houston, who boast a solid lineup loaded with dudes who smash southpaws.

Obviously Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker are the standouts and can be used as one-offs, but this team does not strikeout a lot and they hit the ball hard.

Suffice to say, Perez could be in trouble tonight.

Seattle Mariners

Lastly, allow me to prop up the Mariners, who look mighty appealing at home against Austin Gomber tonight.

I’ll admit we usually want to attack Rockies arms at Coors Field, but he’s an equal opportunity sad sack, regardless of where he’s pitching.

Seattle wrecks left-handed pitching, folks. They sport a collective .214 ISO from their projected starting lineup, with guys like Teoscar Hernandez (.441!) and A.J. Pollock standing out as elite options.

The real issue here is who do we leave out of our stacks? There are a lot of options to consider, as Gomber doesn’t miss bats (18% K rate), and he gets slapped around by righties (.236 ISO).

Should we just roll out 150 different versions using Mariners stacks? Only maybe.

Other MLB DFS Stacks to Consider for 4/14/23

  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Tampa Bay Rays
  • Milwaukee Brewers

This is a huge slate, so perhaps my top four favorite MLB DFS stacks aren’t enough. If so, let’s not rule out the stacked Dodgers, nor the Rays and Brewers.

L.A. isn’t in the best spot, but they’re the Dodgers. Justin Steele has been very good early this year, but he’s on the road against a talented lineup that destroys left-handed pitching.

Enough said, am I right?

Tampa Bay also gets Jose Berrios, who is not immune to implosions. He also has a great deal of trouble from the left side of the plate, which may make guys like Luke Raley, Brandon Lowe, and Wander Franco stand out.

Then there’s the Brew Crew, who face the hittable Michael Wacha. He’s best attacked by righties, though, so I’d prioritize Willy Adames, Luke Voit, and Brian Anderson in stacks.

Hopefully my top MLB DFS stacks find you well. You can pick one and run, but on a slate of this size, I’d suggest maxing out a GPP and trying several different angles. Whatever you do, I wish you luck!
