Damian Lillard

Top NBA DFS Picks for Wednesday, 3/8/23

You know you’re in trouble when things in daily fantasy basketball look a bit too obvious. Much like the old saying “too good to be true”, if the value or studs fit perfectly, you’re probably looking at a loss.

That was the case last night, and it serves as a reminder for what to look out for as Wednesday’s seven-game slate at Draft Kings rolls around.

As I piece together my top NBA DFS picks for this slate, there is not a lot of screaming value. There is some chalk, though, as Jayson Tatum is coming in with nearly 27% ownership and Aaron Wiggins is the top value at 42%.

I will gladly fade both of those guys tonight. Of course, you need to find pivots or replacements, which brings me to my favorite NBA DFS picks for Wednesday night.

Damian Lillard, PG, Portland Trail Blazers ($11.5k)

Lillard is my stud of choice on Wednesday, as he’s got the third best fantasy points projection of the entire slate, and currently comes in with just 5% ownership.

It’s pretty likely that number spikes, but with Tatum being popular and guys like Luka and Joker existing, he should still be somewhat overlooked.

Low-owned Dame with Anfernee Simons still sidelined? Sign me up for that. Seriously, look what he’s been doing over his last 10 games.

  • 39.2 points per game
  • 7.1 rebounds per game
  • 7 assists per game

Lillard is on a mission these days, and his usage and production are simply insane.

The price has come up, but it’s warranted. That, and most people will feel obliged to take the savings with Tatum, or roll with a safer option like Luka or Jokic. I love Lillard tonight for all of these reasons.

Russell Westbrook, PG, Los Angeles Clippers ($7.2k)

Lillard heads my NBA DFS core, but it admittedly gets hairy after that. For now, I really like the value associated with Russ.

Westbrook is still a professional “things doer”, as he’s averaged 15 points, 7.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in his last five games.

He obviously has to defer to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George at times, but the points and dimes are right where we want them to be. Based off of history, we know we can get more rebounds out of him, too.

In all fairness, Russ didn’t top 30 minutes in his first three games with the Clippers, either. He’s now logged 36 and 34 minutes in his last two contests, and tonight he’ll be busy against Toronto.

The matchup isn’t amazing for him as a scorer, but I do think he could have a big game as a playmaker and on the glass. The reality is he is going to see the floor a lot, and he projects decently (37 fantasy points).

Russ is a solid mid-range try tonight, and he balloons to a must-use core play if the Clippers rest one of their studs.

Isaiah Joe, SG, Oklahoma City Thunder ($4.4k)

More value is sure to open up tonight, but as things stand, I am fine with turning to at least one OKC player. The Thunder will be shorthanded against the Suns, as SGA is already ruled out.

OKC will also be without Jalen Williams, so there should be room for production on the wing. The only issue is the matchup with Phoenix is brutal.

I’d probably prefer to target an OKC player who is not super owned, and/or coming off the bench. We won’t know that information until later in the day, but Joe is projected for less ownership than Aaron Wiggins, so he’s a good place to start.

Joe has proven to be a solid scorer, so if he can get around 30 minutes, I think he can crush this price tag.

It’s pretty early and there isn’t much news out, so I’ll end things with these three NBA DFS picks. I know I love Damian Lillard if he’s going to go overlooked, and I’ll likely avoid stacking elite options since the value presently is hot garbage.
